Malala Yousafzai on The DailyShow
When I first saw the title, I knew the name had seemed familiar. A few days ago, One of my sorority sisters had shared the link to this on our Facebook group. I had heard about this story and a few other stories that are similar to it but had never seen this particular video. It's always interesting to me to hear about the chaos that goes on in terrorist- ran societies. Malala Yousafzai is a sixteen year old girl that was growing up while the Taliban took control in her Pakistani hometown. She wrote a "tell all" book about the Taliban, and later became a personal target to them. In this video, she describes her experiences and the effect that being a personal target had on her. I found that she didn't really talk about what had happened, but she expressed how she feels about society as a whole. I found this to be very interesting, all though, I do think that it wasn't enough information from that one clip shown to be able to write a fair amount of information about.

I too have seen a couple of different videos that are simliar to malala's story. It may come weird to us tat there are still places in this world where no one is equal and it seems undeveloped like the United States. They video did target how she felt and not what it was that happened but I would sure like to know what happened to Malala and other question like if she is even safe to go back home for trying to voice her opinion.
ReplyDeleteHey Emily, I kinda have to agree with you. Although the story was touching and there were some vaild points, there wasnt enough information in my eyes to really set Malala's true tone. Obviously I feel bad for what she has had to go through, but she really was only on air for maybe 5 minutes total. All in all, it was touching and I would be happy to support her cause, but in today's world you really have to look in to sources before you can make an ultimate decision.

I also thought that the name sounded familiar when I first saw it. As soon as the video clip started I remembered the reason for Malala's significance. Knowledge is power and Malala understood this sentiment as soon as it was taken away from her. While some people can see the value of education even when they have it, most people need to lose it before they really learn to appreciate it. Malala fought for what she believed in and risked her life in the process. I have a lot of respect for people who will fight for something even with the cost of their own life on the line.
